Marka Valley Trek

Trekking through one of the most remote areas of the Greater Himalaya in a landscape of dropping canyons and lush river bottoms.  Magnificient view of the Ladakh and Zanskar ranges.  Passing two high passes of up to 5272m and magnificient view of Ladakh and Zanskar ranges.  The trail wind past willow groves, alongside of wild roses and through light canyons decorated with colourful prayer flags as they flutter in the light wind.  The opportunity to meet and learn about nomadic families as they herd their yaks in this vast valley is another unforgettable experience.  And lighting a butter lamp in a monastery for peace of mind, leaving indelible impressions of our journey through this wonderful land.

This wilderness trail skirts the hi-altitude Hemis National Park with its abundance of wild life and heads through far flung villages with lush green fields of barley and potato the chief crops in the region. These tiny oasis appear as welcome sights as you traverse an otherwise stark barren landscape. Far to the northwest extend excellent views of the mighty Karakorum mountain ranges.
